A program in Partnership Dance Instruction

Program Overview

The purpose of this program is to develop sound teaching skills and strategies for those looking to enter the exciting field of partnership dance instruction. Trainees successfully completing this course of study will be qualified to teach all dances covered at the Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced Level.

Part I: Prerequisite Audition and Preparatory Classes -
Mastering Basic Dance Figures - Participation to be determined on an individual basis during mandatory audition.
Partnership dance experience is necessary. Participants must be able to lead & follow 6 Basic Step Patterns in each of the required dance styles in order to participate in Part II.

Part II: Teacher Training Phase - (Mandatory for all Participants)
Learn the Essentials of Teaching Seven of the Most Popular Dances

Part III: Practical Trainee Teaching - (Optional for all Participants)
Teach 40 hours, 28 hours assistant teaching and 12 hours independent teaching, of elected Stepping Out group classes under supervision of Teacher Training Director, Simone Assboeck.  More information given after completion of Part II.

Curriculum

Learn to teach 7 of the most popular dance styles: Salsa, Foxtrot, Rumba, Waltz, Swing, West Coast Swing, and Argentine Tango.

Participants will learn:    
• the proper partnership for each dance
• to understand partnership positions
• to perfect "lead & follow" skills
• how to prepare a lesson plan
• how to select the proper music
• how to read charts & notate dance figures
• how to develop a sense of classroom logistics
• how to create smooth, logical choreography
• practical teaching skills through actual classroom exercises

Staff

The program will be taught by Teacher Training Director Simone Assboeck, with additional specialized classes taught by Stepping Out teaching staff such as Tetyana Bilych, Jamie Cunneen, Linda Gammon, Martina Kocichova, Alfredo Melendez, Maria Jose Sosa, Benjamin Soencksen, Tybaldt Ulrich and more!

Part I:     Prerequisite Audition Dates:

Part II:    
April 27th - June 20, 2010


Group A:     

Tuesdays 5:30pm - 7:30pm
and Saturdays 4:00pm-7:00pm       

Group B:    
 
Thursdays 5:30pm - 7:30pm
and Sundays 11:00am - 2:00pm

Please note on application which Group you prefer to attend, each group is Beginner Training Level.

Practice Sessions

Participants may attend the Practice Sessions:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday at 9:30pm
Saturdays at 5:00pm
Sundays at 3:00pm and 5:00pm

Participants may also sign-up for individual practice times Monday-Friday before 5:30PM based on availability at no additional cost.



Tuition

A $50 non-refundable Registration Fee will be due by Friday March 26, 2010 in order to reserve a space in your name.

Part I: Participants will be charged per person as follows:
During prerequisite audition, the Teacher Training Director will determine what dances need to be further developed in order to fulfill the requirements to enter Part II of the program.
1 Course   (4 classes = 4 hrs) $85
2 Courses (8 classes = 8 hrs) $150
3 Courses (12 classes = 12 hrs) $195
Beginner Unlimited Package $180/month

Part II:
Option 1:      Participants may pay in full by Thursday April 15, 2010 for a total of $800 per person. 
Option 2:      Participants may pay in 2 installments for a total of $850:

  • First Payment-     $425 per person due April 15, 2010
  • Second Payment-     $425 per person due May 15, 2010

(Participants may pay by cash, check, or credit card.)

Please fill out application and bring with you to audition along with $50 non-refundable Registration Fee.  Application deadline is Tuesday March 23, 2010 or Thursday March 25, 2010 depending on pre-scheduled mandatory audition.

With over 85 classes a week touching on all styles of dance, our comfortable 10,000 square foot studio offers the perfect training ground for those interested in a career in Partnership Dance Instruction.
